October 1 – Saturday. West Side Dems 8th Annual Barbeque. Join the West Side Democrats for the 8th Annual Barbeque at Coppers Restaurant in beautiful downtown Conway. The hours are 11-3. We’ll be featuring the famous “William and Jim” barbeque and all the other great food you’ve come to expect. Williams’s Special Sauce is the talk of the town. A vegetarian option will be available. October 3 – Monday. EC Meeting. The Horry County Executive Committee will meet in the Jury Room of the Horry County Justice Center on 2nd Avenue in Conway. The meeting begins at 6:00 pm with registration beginning at 5:30. All ECs and Alternates are urged to attend. Everyone is welcome. October 6 – First Thursday of the month Myrtle Beach Happy Hour, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm., Handley’s Pub and Grub, 3873 Renee Drive, Myrtle Beach (Carolina Forest). Handley’s is located in the Kroger Shopping Center at the intersection of U.S. 501 and Carolina Forest Boulevard. Once you enter the shopping center, take Renee Drive and Handley’s will be on the West side. Happy Hour specials for both food and drink. October 13 – Second Thursday of the month. The South Enders Club will meet at 6:00 PM at The Borgata Restaurant, 813 Surfside Drive in Surfside Beach. This month’s speaker will be City Councilman, Michael Chestnut. Councilman Chestnut will be running for reelection this November. Breakfast Buffet is $7.00. For information, contact Sally P. October 20 Third Thursday of each month – Democratic Women’s Council of Horry County (DWCHC), 5:30. This month’s speaker will be City Councilwoman, Susan Grissom Means. Councilwoman Grissom Means will be running for reelection this November. The meeting location is Martin’s Restaurant, 7200 North Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach (corner of 73rd and N. Ocean Blvd). October 30 – Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Eugene Robinson will be featured in a Distinguished Lecture on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Wheelwright Auditorium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. The lecture begins at 7:00pm. RSVP events@coastal.edu or call 843-349-2811. Admission is free. Eugene Robinson cuts through the clutter of words to focus on the intent, objectives, and accomplishments of the Obama Administration and Congress.
